Subject: Invitation ELSC-event "Pharmaceuticals and Patents: Economic and
Social Value for Europe", 19.12.2006
Dear Sir, dear Madam,
=E2=80=9Ethe war on patents is on=E2=80=9C. It sounds threatening but is
nevertheless the truth if we look at China's efforts to reach
Europe's patent standards. The most important issue for us Europeans
is the development of Bio- and Life-Sciences. Europe was once the
pharmacy of the world but at this point in time we are far from that.
What exactly can we do to regain the leading role in the field of
pharmaceuticals in the world? This is the subject of a Seminar
followed by a Working Dinner, organised by the European Life Science
Circle in cooperation with the European Patent Office.
I would specially like to thank Alain Pompidou, who as President of
the EPO heartily supports this issue and works with Europe's best
interest in mind. I greatly appreciate Alain Pompidou's cooperation
with the European Parliament which is now redefining its role in the
patent debate.
Please find attached the invitation to the event "Pharmaceuticals and
Patents: Economic and Social Value for Europe" on the 19th of
December 2006.
I look forward to seeing you there.
Best regards,
Jorgo Chatzimarkakis
