Dear friends,



This is just a reminder that the Center for International Environmental
Law is inviting you to an informal strategy meeting on a framework for
future action on Intellectual Property and Free Trade Agreements, and
Sustainable Development issues.



The objective of the meeting is to provide Geneva-based NGOs working on
IP and FTAs with an opportunity to discuss future strategies and scope
of areas each is respectively working on. The meeting also aims to
reinforce NGO collaborative initiatives in the light of the suspension
of the Doha Round and recent comments by the US trade representative to
the effect that while the US is committed to the WTO and the
multilateral trading system, the US maintained a "very ambitious agenda
on free trade and regional trade agreements."



Participants will be provided, beforehand, with draft copies of
commissioned background notes addressing the various challenges and
opportunities raised by bilateral intellectual property negotiations,
and it is hoped that such documents will form part of the discussion.



The meeting will take place at the Maison des Associations, Rue de
Savoises 1205 Geneva, on 22 August 2006, from 12h30 -2h00 and sandwiches
will be served.
