Medicines and Related Substances Control Act: Amendments to regulatio=
ns
Latest Developments: While the Department had initially expected the =
Act to come into operation at the beginning of April 2003, it now appears t=
hat this will only happen by the beginning of May 2003 ( the date of commen=
cement depends on the President). Regulations will come into effect simulta=
neously with the commencement of the Act to ensure that there are no gaps i=
n the legislation once implementation takes place.
Background: Published in the Government Gazette No. 23903 on 11 Octob=
er 2002, the proposed regulations are made in terms of s.35 of the Medicine=
s and Related Substances Control Act, 1965 (Act 101 of 1965). The proposed =
regulations concern fees payable to the Registrar of the Medicines Control =
Council (MCC) for Category A and Category C medicines, as well as applicati=
ons for entry into the official register.
