THE BIOTECH REPORT
In less than a decade, the biotechnology industry has gained an
extraordinary amount of political clout in Washington. According
to research by the Center for Responsive Politics, the industry
has given close to $26 million in individual, PAC and soft money
contributions since 1989. Biotech companies and the
Biotechnology Industry Organization, their main trade group,
also spent nearly $143 million to lobby Congress, the White
House and the Food and Drug Administration between 1998 and
2002. For more information, including charts and graphs
detailing the industry's campaign contributions and lobbying,
