This is a heads up regarding a June 2 meeting at the World Bank in
Washington DC. The meeting title will be something like: "Compensation
and Compulsory Licenses, implementing the Doha Declaration and advancing
the UN Millennium Development Goals"
The World Bank will be making an announcement later, and perhaps having
the meeting recorded for streaming video.
The meeting on setting compensation on compulsory licenses will take
place in the afternoon, featuring a number of well economists and legal
experts. There will also be a morning meeting on local production of
generics and on equity pricing.
Both programs are being organized by the Generics Consultative Group,
which was organized by the World Bank program on "The Role of the
Generics and Local Industry in Attaining the Millennium Development
Goals in Pharmaceuticals and Vaccines."
The objective of the afternon session is to better understand different
methodologies for determining compensation, and in particular, to
consider compensation approaches that are consistent with the Doha
mandate to "provide access to medicines for all" in resource poor
settings, and the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
