Bulgaria Bans Tobacco Commercials

In a special text in the Tobacco and tobacco items Act the MPs banned al
kinds of electronic, radio and television advertisements of cigarettes,
tobacco and tobacco items. Individuals having as basic activity the
production or trade with tobacco cannot be sponsors to radio or television
programs. Cigarette ads are allowed only on the territory of the enterprises
for the production of tobacco and tobacco trade sites. Advertising of a
cigarette trademark is allowed at sponsoring of events not involving
individuals younger than 18. The MPs decided that the maximum tar content in
a cigarette has to be reduced gradually every year. By the end of 2004 it
will be 15 mg, as by 2010 it has to be reduced to 10 mg.
