Philip Morris International, one of the world's leading tobacco
companies, whose flagship brand is Marlboro, today announced plans to
establish a presence in South Africa. A Philip Morris affiliate will
begin recruiting this month for offices in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban.

Philip Morris withdrew from the South Africa market in 1986 because of
apartheid. Armin Aeberhard, who will manage the Philip Morris' business
in South Africa, said, "We are excited about the contribution that South
Africans will make to growing our business and contributing to the
already diverse culture at Philip Morris."

Aeberhard said that Philip Morris was confident that its cigarette
brands would prove to be popular among smokers in South Africa. - Sapa
