UKRAINE
JTI Ukraine's output rocketed nearly 79 per cent in April - JTI

 Thursday, May 15, 2003

According to the association of Ukrainian tobacco manufacturers
Ukrtutun ('Ukrainian Tobacco'), JT International Ukraine
showed nearly 79 per cent production growth in April compared to the
same month of 2002 and produced roughly 800 million
cigarettes. Aggregate 2.75 billion sticks were made over the first four
months, 41.4 per cent up from a year ago. The results are
especially remarkable, as at the beginning of the year saw a decline in
the performance of the company which was unexpectedly
outstripped by a comparative newcomer in the market, Liggett-Ducat
Ukraine. April was also marked by the launching of a new
version of the Camel family, Camel Superlights, at JTI's facility in
the city of Kremenchug. (vt)
