Dear friends

The final negotiating session of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco
Control will be held in Geneva from 17-28 February. Will it be a major
step forward for global tobacco control? Or will it be a capitulation
to client states of the tobacco industry? We are now in the closing
stages and there is everything still to fight for.

ASH (in London) and Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids have now completed a
'side-by-side' commentary on the Revised Chair's text which will be used
as the basis for negotiation, all ready for the sixth negotiating
session of the convention (INB-6). If you want to know what is going
on, and what some of us think of it, have a look.

This is now available on the ASH web site, international page:
http://www.ash.org.uk/?international

In HTML web browsable form:
http://www.ash.org.uk/html/international/html/inb6commentary.html

In PDF format for printing:
http://www.ash.org.uk/html/international/pdfs/inb6commentary.pdf

We'll be mailing this out to our contacts database in the next day or
so.

Also coming soon will be the collective (and somewhat shorter)
non-governmental view from the Framework Convention Alliance of 180 NGOs
from all over the world (www.fctc.org)

I hope this is useful.
