Hungaroring Safe From Tobacco Ban
Lawmakers exclude Hungarian Grand Prix from tobacco ad ban
Source: Planet F-1, 2002-01-08

HUNGARY'S ban on tobacco advertising came into force with the
arrival of the New Year - but it will not affect the Hungarian Grand
Prix or the some of the teams whose cars will still be carrying
cigarette ads.

Briefly the new law prohibits any outdoor advertising that promotes
tobacco products and will force the tobacco companies to target
their customers inside buildings - except at Hungaroring.

This F1 championship event, sponsored by Marlboro, is safe.

The government inserted a clause in the law exempting the race and
ensuring that it would not be cancelled.
