CIGARETTES will be banned from the cinema screen under new laws.

The Government is set to introduce a tobacco advertising Bill which
will include a ban on smoking in films.

Movies which include scenes with characters smoking could undergo
cuts or face a commercially- disastrous 18 certificate.

The threat has met with fierce opposition within the film
industry.

The British Board of Film Classification said: "Classifying a film
out of the reach of younger audiences could create the preposterous
situation where 101 Dalmatians has to be given an 18 certificate
because Cruella De Vil smokes."
