Korea Tobacco And Ginseng to Set up International Affiliates

   SEOUL, Jan 31 Asia Pulse - The Korea Tobacco and Ginseng Corp. [KT&G]
said Wednesday it will set up affiliates abroad to directly market and
export Korean cigarettes abroad.

KT&G is currently using an indirect exporting system.

The corporation will expand its number of employees in China, the United
States and Uzbekistan and establish local offices by 2004, which it will
later turn into local affiliates.

"Exploring foreign markets is essential for the continued sales growth of
Korean tobaccos," a spokesman said.

KT&G exported 307 million packs of cigarettes last year, up 110 percent
from a year ago.
