Taipei, 8 January: Taiwan's Board of Foreign Trade (BOFT) under the Ministry
of Economic Affairs gave a green light Monday [8 January] to the import of
cigarettes, beer, wine and spirits from Albania, Estonia, Georgia, Jordan,
Kyrgyzstan, Latvia and Oman.
BOFT said the category of spirits refers to distilled and reprocessed liquor
but does not include "Asian-style" distilled liquor made from sorghum and
rice.
BOFT officials said the measures have been taken based on the resolution
adopted in the process of Taiwan's application to join the General Agreement
on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), the predecessor of the World Trade Organization
(WTO).
