Something shocking is happening in the EU music industry - sales of songs
downloaded from the internet are growing at over 100 percent a year. From
a blip in 2004 when Europeans downloaded just =8021 million worth of music,
a multi-billion euro market is being born and changing the landscape for
good.

off the Russian website allofmp3.com could impact EU energy security, but
with 20 billion songs downloaded illegally in the world last year compared

both internal and foreign EU policy.

One of the worlds's best selling artists, Greek singer Nana Mouskouri, is
calling for culture to be treated differently to other products in the
European Union. "Music has soul, mind and emotion. It is not just a
product", she said in Brussels.

[Focus] Internet radicals make noise in Swedish elections

A rookie political party in Sweden, the Pirate Party, has pushed the
everyday actions of thousands of ordinary people =96 downloading music and
films from the internet =96 to the top of the political agenda.
Possibilities to form a pan-European Pirate Party and run united for the
European parliament elections in 2009 are being considered.

[Focus] Old books only in European Digital Library

The EU wants to digitalise and online the vast volumes of cultural works
in member state libraries, but unless the issues of copyright and
intellectual property rights are solved, the European Digital Library may
consist only of books and journals published before the 1920s.
