WIPO. 2005 ended up with 45 new accessions to WIPO-administered
treaties and the entering into force of the Patent Law Treaty
During 2005 the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)-
administered treaties noticed an increasing number of accessions.
Director General of WIPO, Dr. Kamil Idris received 45 accession
instruments. WIPO Performances and Phonograms Treaty (WPPT) with 7
and the WIPO Copyright Treaty (WCT) with 6 were the instruments that
received more accessions. A list of all the new accessions to the
treaties administered by WIPO can be consulted in the related WIPO
press release.
Furthermore under WIPO management the new international Patent Law
Treaty (PLT), concluded in 2000, entered into force. The PLT
harmonises formal patent procedures relating to national and regional
patent applications and maintenance of patents. It defines and tries
to standardise, on international level, formal requirements for
inventors, what helps to avoid application rejection. The PLT
achieves a major goal of international simplification by
incorporating the requirements for PCT international applications
into national and regional laws.
