i2010 and creative content
The Austrian Presidency is organising an Expert Seminar on =93Content
for Competitiveness =96 Strengthening the European Creative Industries
in the Light of the i2010-Strategy=94 in close cooperation with the
European Commission. This event will be held in Vienna (Hofburg) on 2
and 3 March 2006.
The seminar will deal with several issues discussed in the form of 5
panels:
Panel 1: European content in a global and converging environment
The opening panel will analyse the current position of the European
content and creative industries in a global and converging environment.
Panel 2: Public policy in future content markets
It will focus on the role of public policy in future content markets
in the light of technical evolutions going on in content-related
industries.
Panel 3: New content business models for content distribution
This panel will address the question of the future of the provision
of content, especially considering the background of digitisation and
interoperability. It involves the discussion on whether the existing
measures of control (DRMs) are efficient or not and whether there
could/should be alternatives. The problems of piracy will also be
brought forward.
Panel 4: Strengthening content through diversity?
It will focus is set on the idea of cultural diversity as a European
added value. How have European Policies to be designed to stimulate
diversity in the most effective way?
Panel 5: Growth and employment in the content industries
The final panel will take into account the main ideas of the
precedent panels and bear in mind the main objective, i.e.
strengthening the European content and creative industries.

RFID Conference
The European Commission will launch a wide-ranging public debate on
the opportunities and challenges posed by Radio Frequency
Identification technology (RFID) for government, industry and society
at large at the CeBIT Fair, in Hanover, Germany.
The debate will be opened by viviane Reding, Commissioner for
Information Society & Media. A panel discussion will follow - chaired
by Fabio Colasanti (Director General of DG INFSOC) and composed of
the following speakers:
- Vinton Cerf, Google Chief Evangelist & Chairman of Internet
- Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN);
- Claus Heinrich, Member of the Executive Board of SAP AG;
- Malcolm Crompton, former Federal Privacy Commissioner of
Australia and Managing Director of Information Integrity Solutions
