The Program on Intellectual Property in the Public Interest (PIPPI)
of the Washington College of Law, American University is pleased to
announce that the First Annual PIIPI Distinguished Lecture on
Intellectual Property will be held on Thursday, November 3rd 2005 and
will feature Pamela Samuelson, Chancellor=92s Professor of Information
Management and of Law at the University of California at Berkeley and
a Director of the Berkeley Center for Law and Technology. Professor
Samuelson will address Copyright and Consumer Protection.

Professor Samuelson has written and spoken extensively about the
challenges that new information technologies are posing for public
policy and traditional legal regimes, particularly in the areas of
copyright, software protection and cyberlaw. From 1997 through 2002,
Professor Samuelson was a fellow of the John D. & Catherine T.
MacArthur Foundation. In 2001, she was appointed to a UC Berkeley
Chancellor's Professorship for distinguished research, teaching and
service for her contributions to both Boalt Hall and the School of
Information Management and Systems. In 2002, she was named an
honorary professor at the University of Amsterdam. Professor
Samuelson also is a fellow of the Association of Computing Machinery,
a member of the Board of Directors of the Electronic Frontier
Foundation and of the Open Source Application Foundation, and a
member of the Advisory Board for the Electronic Privacy Information
Center.

The Distinguished Lecture will begin at 6:00 pm, and will be preceded
by a welcome reception from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm outside of Room 603 of
the Washington College of Law, 4801 Massachusetts Avenue, NW,
Washington, DC 20016. You will receive an email confirming receipt of
