Below is a link to a quite dense stats report on Science ,technology and
innovation in Europe. Given many of the battles at the EU level are based
on part on claims about job creation and innovation its useful to match
the claims against the stats. Copies of the report can be obtained in all
the EU official langs. The link below is to the English pdf.

(25/08/2005) Some of the main findings of this study include : R&D
expenditure per capita is highest in Sweden and Finland ; more than half
of R&D personnel in the EU Member States work in 3 countries ; biggest
researchers increase is seen in Greece, Denmark and Austria ; most
graduates from tertiary education in science, mathematics and computing
are observed in Ireland and the United Kingdom.
