Friends:
I hope you are all well. I wanted to make sure you knew
that Congressman Wu will release the results of Congress'
investigation into the textbook industry next Tuesday - textbooks have
been the Student PIRGs' big higher ed related issues over the past 2
years, and this GAO report should make a big back-to-school splash. I
will also forward a news release with an analysis on Tuesday. Check
back at www.MakeTextbooksAffordable.org
<http://www.MakeTextbooksAffordable.org> for updates!
***********************************
Next Tuesday, Congressman David Wu from Oregon will release the
long-awaited results of Congress' investigation into skyrocketing
college textbooks prices and the role that the textbooks industry plays
in this ripoff. OSPIRG's Board Chair, Courtney Morse and Erin Devany
of the Oregon Student Association Board Member will join him at a news
conference in Portland Tuesday 8/16 at 11am PST.
This promises to be a great media event. NYT is already doing a story
on this week from this Sunday. We will be pitching this story to
national and local news outlets from around the country.
Attached is Congressman Wu's news advisory, which we are circulating for
him (I've also attached reporter pitch points). On Tuesday at 11:00 PST
, we will release the GAO report along with our Top Ten ways students
can save money on textbooks. (Materials on this will not be avail
internally until Monday because that is when Wu will let us look at the
report)
If you have general background questions, please first look for the
answer at www.MakeTextbooksAffordable.org. If you cannot find the
answer, contact me at daver@pirg.org or 310-210-8410.
