On May 16, the California Senate passed SB 682, the Identity
Information Protection Act, which prohibits the use of radio frequency
identification (RFID) tags in state and federal government-issued
identification cards. The law would also make it illegal to read or
attempt to read identification documents without the owner's knowledge.
The bill now moves to the state assembly.
