The debate over DR-CAFTA has ignited passions in many quarters. This
first panel  of the WITA DR-CAFTA Series will explore and clarify some
of the issues, concerns, and benefits of the DR-CAFTA , which has been
described as the trade vote of the year .  We will hear from multiple
voices--some with unique vantages--from the subject region.
This panel will feature  the Ambassadors of Costa Rica and the Dominican
Republic alongside 2  opposition voices from the region.
Panel is Tuesday, April 12, 8:30-10 AM, Hotel Washington.

(Note:  The Senate Finance Committee will begin its DR-CAFTA hearings
the  very next day-Wednesday, April 13--so this panel is exceptionally
timely.)


WITA EVENT  1

  DR-CAFTA Series, Part 1: Regional Perspectives

Important voices not often heard in Washington policy circles on the
DR-CAFTA debate are those of Central Americans themselves. This first
panel of the WITA DR-CAFTA Series will examine some of the concerns
being expressed in the region about the agreement, as well as the
benefits that supporters say will result.

About the DR-CAFTA Series: The U.S./Dominican Republic-Central America
Free Trade Agreement has been described as the trade vote of the year.
The debate over DR-CAFTA, which will be considered by Congress soon, has
ignited passions in many quarters. This series of programs will explore
the issues, concerns, and benefits of the DR-CAFTA, from multiple
viewpoints and vantages.

Ambassador of Costa Rica to the US, Tomas DUENAS;

Ambassador of The Dominican Republic to the US Flavio ESPINEL;

Bishop Alvaro RAMAZZINI, San Marcos, Guetamala, Immediate Past
President, Bishop's Secretariat of Central America and Panama; and

Roman MACAYA, Competetive Agricultural Group, Costa Rica.
