The Copyright Office has received the comments below on issues raised by
"orphan works," i.e., copyrighted works whose owners are difficult or
even impossible to locate. These initial comments have been submitted to
the Office in compliance with the Notice of Inquiry published in the
Federal Register on January 26, 2005. Please report any errors or broken
links to orphanworks@loc.gov.
In many of the comments posted here, personal contact information, such
as an email address or telephone number, has been redacted from the
actual comment submitted in order to prevent misuse of this information
by third parties. The Copyright Office, however, has retained this
information for administrative purposes.
Parties who wish to submit reply comments should follow the instructions
set forth in the Notice of Inquiry and summarized here. The deadline for
reply comments is 5:00 p.m. EDT on May 9, 2005.
