European Union. Consultation on data protection issues related to
intellectual property rights and digital rights management systems
The Working Group on Data Protection has opened a consultation on data
protection issues related to intellectual property rights. The purpose
of the consultation is to discover interested parties' opinions on two
issues. First, the use of digital rights management systems (DRM),
insofar as these technical devices provide for the identification and
tracing of individuals accessing legally protected information on the
Internet. The second issue relates to the possibilities available to
copyright holders to enforce their rights against individuals suspected
of copyright violation.
The deadline for submitting comments is 31 March.
