World Intellectual Property Organisation. Conclusions of the WIPO
General Assembly as regards several issues related to IP

The World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Assemblies took
place from 27 September to 5 October 2004. Among these WIPO Assemblies,
the WIPO General Assembly has discussed the activities of the
Organisation over the past year and reached conclusions as regards
several topics related to the matter of intellectual property.

WIPO Member states so agreed, among other topics, on the importance of
adopting a new treaty on the protection of audiovisual performances, and
decided to further keep the subject under review, they envisaged the
adoption of an international instrument on the protection of
broadcasting organisations, and they agreed on the convening of a
diplomatic conference on the updating of the Trademark Law Treaty (see
the link referred above).

The General Assembly also addressed subjects such as the protection of
traditional knowledge and expressions of folklore/traditional cultural
expressions, the equitable sharing of benefits resulting from the use of
genetic resources, and the enhancement of the development dimension in
WIPO's work.
