MPAA Finds That Replacing Chairman Is A Challenge

Replacing Jack Valenti, the 82-year-old current chairman of the Motion
Picture Association of America (MPAA), is proving to be a challenge. The
New York Times reports that Valenti has been trying to retire for the
past two years. Rep. W.J. (Billy) Tauzin, R-La., was the first to accept
the position before passing it up to join the pharmaceutical industry
and reap the rewards of a much larger paycheck than the one offered by
the MPAA. Valenti advocates urgently, "This is one of the most
fascinating, exciting jobs a person can have... This is a global job.
You'll meet the premier of China, the cultural minister of France.
You'll be involved with creative people. It pays well. If that's not
something that engages people, I don't know what the hell would." Three
new candidates are being interviewed by the MPAA board including
Victoria Clarke, Daniel Glickman and Pat Mitchell.
