Canadian Official Suggests International Treaty On Spam
A top Canadian official said Tuesday that an international treaty may be
needed to address the prevalence of unsolicited commercial e-mail because
individual governments cannot deal with the problem by themselves. Reuters
reports that Canadian Industry Minister Lucienne Robillard said there is
an urgent need for new international efforts against spam, including
perhaps a treaty to allow the extradition of suspected large-scale
spammers. "I think that the working group at the [Organization for
Economic Cooperation and Development] has to find an innovative solution.
... We have to consider all alternatives," Robillard said.
