Hi all,

I=92m a new subscriber to the list; my apologies if this has already been c=
overed (didn=92t see it in the archives):

Does anyone know the current legislative status of the Piracy Deterrence an=
d Education Act of 2003 (presented by Rep. Lamar Smith) or the Author, Cons=
umer, and Computer Owner Protection and Security (ACCOPS) Act of 2003 (from=
Michigan=92s John Conyers)? Both bills would tighten regulations and enfor=
cement on file-sharing, and the former would include a federally-funded pub=
lic relations effort to boot. All I know I learned from thomas.loc.gov, and=
there=92s not much of a story there beyond the fact that they=92re both st=
uck in committee.

It occurred to me that someone on this list might have a better idea what c=
hance these bills really have?

Thanks much,

JC Dwyer
