     *  ICANN criticized during U.S. Senate subcommittee hearing--A 
subcommittee of the United States Senate held a hearing on July 31 2003 
to discuss current issues concerning the Internet Corporation for 
Assigned Names and Numbers. During the hearing, a number of participants 
criticized ICANN for its apparent lack of openness. In addition, the 
chairman of the subcommittee, Senator Conrad Burns, said he was 
considering legislation to improve ICANN accountability.
