QUOTE:
Open-Source and Protected Software: Working Together to Build a Strong
and Secure America, a symposium on the future of the U.S. software
industry hosted by the Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) Project
at the George Mason University School of Law’s National Center for
Technology and Law.

Changing models of software development are already affecting
competitive interests, both in the United States and abroad.
Open-Source and Protected Software: Working Together to Build a Strong
and Secure America will explore the future of the domestic software
industry by examining the current state of both open-source software and
traditionally protected software. The implications of open-source
software for the U.S. intellectual property framework, including
software licensing in various contexts, will be addressed. The
symposium will also examine the potential of open-source development to
impact national security.

Open-Source and Protected Software will bring together the strengths of
diverse perspectives from industry, law practice, government, and
academe to develop a greater understanding of the issues inherent to the
dialogue about open-source and protected software. The Symposium aims
to identify potential areas for cooperation and further development
toward a strong and secure U.S. software industry.

Friday, March 28th, from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM at the George Mason
University School of Law in Arlington, VA.
