Hello everyone. At the conclusion of last Wednesday's teleconference,
there seemed to be a consensus that Tuesday's teleconference would focus
on several of the UNCITRAL Secretariat's Working Papers discussing the
"legal barriers to electronic commerce" as well as several of the
UNCITRAL conventions listed the first section ("International Trade and
Development") of the Annex to the Secretariat's Working Paper 94.
Background information and document locations (all are accessible at the
UNCITRAL website) are noted below.
This week's teleconference is scheduled for:
*_Tuesday, October 8th, 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM EDT
_**If you plan to attend the meeting, please send an RSVP email to me
and I will provide the call-in numbers and passcode by return email. If
you attended Wednesday's meeting last week, you should already have the
call-in information for this Tuesday. However, please email me to
confirm your attendance so that we'll have enough telephone lines for
everyone. Thanks.
_Background Information_*:
As noted above, Tuesday's teleconference will focus general on the
policy considerations and issues related to several of the Secretariat's
Notes and a review of how several UNCITRAL conventions are affected by
e-commerce. You may wish to review, if you haven't already, the
following Secretariat Working Papers for background on the discussion:
WP.91 http://www.uncitral.org/english/workinggroups/wg_ec/wp-91e.pdf
WP.94 http://www.uncitral.org/english/workinggroups/wg_ec/wp-94e.pdf
Subsequent to the discussions last Spring of WP.94, the Secretariat
began surveying States, other units within the UN system, NGOs, etc. for
reactions to the Note and for suggestions on additional documents that
might be considered in the ongoing work. The Secretariat has published
the responses in WP.98 and several Addenda to WP.98. These may be found at:
WP.98 http://www.uncitral.org/english/workinggroups/wg_ec/wp-98-e.pdf
WP.98add1
http://www.uncitral.org/english/workinggroups/wg_ec/WP-98-add1e.pdf
WP.98add2

WP.98.add3
http://www.uncitral.org/english/workinggroups/wg_ec/wg4-wp98add3-e.pdf
Regarding the conventions to be discussed from those included in WP.94,
you may recall that there was a suggestion that we may want to focus on
those in the first section of the Annex since these are UNCITRAL texts.
Those mentioned last Wednesday as general discussion items, and their
URLs, for Tuesday's teleconference were:
