Dear all,

I found an article that states the specifics I needed in the New York =
Times,
Saturday September 2nd, 2000, "Is Litigation The Best Way To Tame New
Technology?" By ADAM LIPTAK.
Stating:
''The growing and dangerous intrusion of this new technology,'' Jack =
Valenti
said, threatens an entire industry's ''economic vitality and future
security.''
Mr. Valenti, the president of the Motion Picture Association of =
America, was
testifying before the House Judiciary Committee, and he was ready for a
rhetorical rumble. The new technology, he said, ''is to the American =
film
producer and the American public as the Boston Strangler is to the =
woman
alone.''=20
It was 1982, and he was talking about videocassette recorders

Thanks for any energy you might have put in

Subject:	[Ecommerce] Request for infomation on Jack Valenti statement
1982, on video a nd Boston stranglers

I hope anyone can tell me the place to find a statement by Jack =
Valenti,
chairman of the Motion Picture Association of America which was made in
1982. I am in need of this finding place as I want to use this =
statement in
a press release concerning a vote in the European parliament on =
copyright in
the information society. The current status doe not look very good for
consumers and the lobby from rightholders is harsh. =20
The main content of the statement I am looking for is as written under =
here.
"This new technology threatens the future off a complete industry. This
means, for the American film producers en the American public what the
Boston strangler means for women." These are the words of Jack Valenty,
Chairman of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) in 1982. =
The
reason for these words was the development and accessibility to =
millions of
consumers of the video recorder and the possibility of making copies.
Nowadays the sale and rental of video-films is one of the major means =
of
income for the MPAA. It shows that new technology that is perceived as =
a
threat by business does not mean the industry dies, They have to =
adjusts
their business model to the new technology.
I hope anyone can help,
