[Ecommerce] UNCITRAL Working Group on Abritration

There is nothing on the drawing board, but a feeling among delegations that
on-line ADR may be an area for which UNCITRAL can bring to bear expertise
in both electronic commerce and ADR. We expect to see by December a
"future e-com issues" paper come out of UNCITRAL (it will be posted on
their website when it appears - www.uncitral.org), which may give some
ideas for possible future work. My guess is that this document will not
stress online ADR, but I can't be sure until I've seen it. In any case,
only the annual UNCITRAL plenary session (held in June each year) can put a
topic on the agenda. It is very unlikely the delegations will believe some
aspect (unknown today) of this topic will be ripe for work next year.

Jeff, can you give us some information about what UNCITRAL will be
discussing with regard to ADR and ecommerce? Knowing that something
will happen is useful, but there must be a bit more information about
what the agenda will be, or who is pushing for what. Jamie
