Is there support for having a meeting toward the end of November on the
issue of how we will make laws for cyberspace, in Washington, DC? I was
thinking the TACD would be a co-sponsor or sponsor of such an event.
Frank, Susan, Vergil and I talked about this at a meeting yesterday with
State, FTC, and Commerce, and the government officials said it would be
interesting to mention this in the Ottawa e-commerce talks at the end of
this month.
I am quite keen for us to take a pro-active position on these issues.
The Hague convention on private law, ICANN, spam laws, privacy
regulation, and other disputes have raised a number of very important
issues, and we really need to address these matters.
CPT could provide the facility (the Carnagie Institution) and the
staffing for such a meeting.
