Err, what's a "natural dioxins" agenda ?

The amount of dioxin which is naturally produced strikes me as an
interesting and important issue; it certainly seemed important to the EPA,
'cos they have spend hundreds of thousands trying to establish what
background levels of dioxin are.

One of the issues that arises are the consequences of setting a regulatory
limit at levels below what nature produces. Continuously cleaning up natural
production of dioxin might be painful, if not impossible.

just out of interest, it turns out that some organisms naturally synthesise
dioxins (not chlorinated). I append the reference for your info.

AB: Two new substituted dibenzo-p-dioxins, aplidioxins A (1) and B (2),
were isolated from the ascidian Aplidiopsis ocellata. The structures of
these compounds were elucidated by a combination of 1D and 2D NMR
spectroscopy and an X-ray analysis of aplidioxin A.
