[Dioxin-l] Dioxin Production in Australia

Dear All,

On Friday 28th January, Australia finally launched its National Pollutant
Inventory.
On our very minimal list, the only POPs chemicals considered are
dioxins and furans.

It may be worth having a look at Australia's estimates of dioxins and furans
generated by community activities. Supposedly, in the south east of
Queensland, our tropical northern state, the community generates 2.7 tonnes
of dioxin and furans from their solid fuel burners (kitchen wood stoves and
domestic heating).

Of course the few estimates of dioxin production in industry available are
mostly in the less than gram range...with the pulp and paper industry in the
same region producing only 0.00021 kg dioxin and furans.

It has certainly left us wondering about the worth of estimation techniques
in pollution inventories.

and search on substances.

Any comments or thoughts ???
