How do I interpret what has transpired in the IETF's MARID
effort to control SPAM?

Bill Gates spits in your face, while attempting to gain control
through patent legalisms of email technology Microsoft did not
invent and while attempting to harm the free, open standards and
software that work together to create the Internet as we know
it.

Gee. Perhaps I am overstating my personal view. I challenge
anyone on this list to show where I am wrong or overstating.

Here is the best description of the story of MARID, by Yakov
Shafranovich, a co-founder and software architect with
SolidMatrix Technologies, Inc., and former co-chair of the
Anti-Spam Research Group (ASRG) of the Internet Research Task
Force (IRTF).

The tells the MARID story, in short, when Microsoft insisted on
placing patent land-mines in the MARID efforts, the MARID group
had no choice but to kill all the hard work that had gone into
the best effort yet to create a way of identifying the
author/source of email and thus controlling SPAM:
