FAT PATENT REVIEW MAY THREATEN LINUX FOUNDATION

The Linux and open source communities are closely watching the U.S.
Patent Office's decision to review Microsoft's FAT (File Allocation
Table) patent. FAT is widely used as a document interchange between
computers. Samba, for example, uses it to move files between Linux
and Windows systems. Advocates worry that Microsoft will someday be
able to ask for a royalty from Linux users.
