You could try but I'd doubt you'd get verification if they want to hide.

This sounds like a rather circuitous money trail for the investor to remain
anonymous.

Even the currency means little; it could be exchanged anywhere along 
(or after) the line using three- or even two-party paper.

Of course, you and I would have the same first guess at who's behind
it all.
