But what do you think the chances are that Gates will take the
opportunity to build a proprietary extension into Exchange servers and
Outlook clients to implement his solution and lock everyone else out?
Of course, he might decide to be "more generous" with "his idea" if
Microsoft could be the clearinghouse for and collect a vig on all such
payments. Is there an RFC on this idea anywhere?

It wouldn't surprise me to see Microsoft has "patent pending" on this
one too.
