Internet Tax Update
Thanks to your efforts, in the last few weeks, nearly 8,000 messages have been
delivered to the United States Senate arguing for a permanent ban on Internet
taxation. Twice now, we have thought we were close to a vote on S. 150, The
Internet Tax Non-Discrimination Act, but we have yet to see a vote.
Now we expect a temporary moratorium, similar to the last one that expired at
the end of October, to be moved into a larger bill this Friday. The upcoming
measure might buy less than another year of tax-free Internet, and still
maintain the states that are allowed to tax the Internet through grandfather
clauses.
ATR is still fighting for the permanent tax moratorium, however. We have
notified every member of the Senate of our strong and deep support for S.
150, and they continue to hear from Friends throughout the country. We will
be fighting until the last minute for a permanent ban. If we have to settle
for a temporary ban right now, we aren't going to wait for another expiration
to get started again. We will hit the ground running to get a permanent ban
as soon as Congress returns. This is a fight ATR will win.
