At the recent Warpstock event in San Francisco I was told that MacroMedia
refuses to allow a Flash 6 player/plugin to be sold for OS/2 because it is
a port of the windows version saying that is only allowed to be run under
windows. Innotek (the company which has ported the previous versions of
Flash for OS/2) has a working Flash 6 but can't distribute it. Does
anyone know if this is the case for any other application (being limited
to windoze) for any other platform then OS/2? It seems petty to enforce
this requirement, which is probably illegal in many places outside the
U.S. (S/B USM, United States of Microsoft). Is this legal in Europe?
Why should Macromedia care what operating system their player is running
on so long as it is a properly licensed version? Why all of a sudden is
this an issue when previous releases were allowed under contract between
Macromedia and Innotek?
I smell a rat from Redmond in this.
