Senate panel passes ban on internet access taxes by Greg Robb
WASHINGTON (CBS.MW)-- The Senate Commerce Committee has approved a=20
measure that would allow for continued tax-free access the Internet. The=20
legislation would impose a federal moratorium on state and local taxes on=20
dial-up charges from Internet service providers and others. The Bush=20
Administration strongly supports the measure. A House panel has passed=20
similar legislation. The bill does not address the issue of whether states=
=20
should be permitted to require retailers to collect sales taxes on online=20
purchases, and the White House has not taken a position on this=20
controversial issue.=20
