Linux wars: Big Blue strikes back
IBM launched a counterstrike against SCO's attack on Linux users,
arguing that SCO's demands for Unix license payments are undermined by its=

earlier shipment of an open-source Linux product under the GNU General=20
Public License (GPL).=20
Big Blue sent a message last week to its sales force reiterating that
the company will stand by its customers and defend itself vigorously.

Letters: SCO's claims have zero credibility
Last week I asked whether SCO might spell the end of free Linux. Judging
by the contents of my inbox, most ZDNet readers see absolutely no credibili=
ty
in SCO's claims. Timothy P. Egbert notes that "there is no practical way to
determine whether or not software code violates someone's software patents.=
"=20
Sanjeev Sharma writes that SCO "has actually shown nothing convincing to=20
anyone, merely put on a show of grandiose claims backed by misdirection and=
=20
confusion." And Bryan Taylor puts perhaps the finest point on it: "SCO's=20
distribution of Linux is nothing short of a business based on for-profit=20
willful distribution of unlicensed and therefore pirated software."
Does anyone think SCO has a case?
