We can make an educated guess. Based on the rumors mills I've been=20
following, Safari has been in development for about a year; IOW, it was=20=
born about the time the Apple-Microsoft deal expired. It must have=20
become apparent to Apple that they could not rely on Microsoft to=20
continue to develop the key applications on which the Mac platform's=20
survival depends. At the same time Apple released Safari, they also=20
shipped Keynote, and I very much expect them to release a complete=20
office suite quite soon. All this tells me is that Apple and=20
Microsoft's 1997 marriage of convenience was as temporary as it looked=20=
to people who understood what was going on at the time. It's all=20
unraveling now, and Apple is entering a new phase, if only out of=20
necessity.

You're free. And freedom is beautiful. And, you know, it'll
take time to restore chaos and order=97order out of chaos.
But we will. =97GW Bush, Washington, D.C., April 13, 2003
