An interesting juxtaposition of articles today.  One is by columnist
Bob Herbert in the New York Times about how budgets are causing a
"meltdown" of the public school system in Oregon, one of the best
systems in the nation.

The other is how Microsoft lobbyists worked over the Speaker of the
Oregon House of Representatives to kill a likely-to-pass bill that
would have allowed (not required) public school systems to consider
using open source software and save millions of dollars.
