I have known many users and companies who need Word _compatability_
(because others use it). I have never met one person -- not one --
who did not have complete loathing of Word as a program. It sucked
before, and it sucks now: it is one of the worst designed application
programs of all time, period. In the time frame you are talking
about, WrodPerfect was still dominant, and the need for Word
compatability was not as compelling as it has since become.

In short, whatever other relevance your arguments may have, the
argument that Microsoft beat OS/2 because of Word is simply ludicrous.
