No, at least not right away, but I can see them using the ownership of
this key Mac product as an implied threat against Apple. These guys are
serious control freaks and they don't want Apple or any other
competitor thinking they can do without Microsoft.
Another potential problem: Apparently VPC for the Mac will be spun off
to Microsoft's Mac Business Unit. That's logical enough, but what will
become of the core technologies that make VPC work? Sounds to me like
they're staying in Redmond. So will they be evolved in such a way as
they advance the Mac product, or developed to serve other objectives
within Microsoft? I think that question is probably rhetorical.
So while I doubt Microsoft will kill VPC for the Mac outright, I would
not be surprised if they didn't threaten to do so, or shove it onto the
neglected back burner.
