In 1946 the Marx Brothers decided to make an independent feature 
film entitled A Night in Casablanca. 

It seems that Chico, who had a serious gambling habit, was hard up. 
The production was initially conceived as a spoof of the Warner Brothers' 
1942 classic, Casablanca (it even had a character called Humphrey Bogus), 
but in production the script broadened its focus and became a general 
parody of wartime melodramas.
