I don't understand the references ('soo-wave'? 'de-boner'?) but aren't 
a lot of people reluctant to consider other platforms because of the 
perceived costs?

* they have to train on a new platform
* they have to buy, install, configure and learn new software
* they may lose compatibility
* they may lose use of devices like media players, scanners, etc.
* they may have to buy a new computer

the major alternatives are MACs and Linux, and these costs vary 
depending. Linux is probably the harder sell except that the MAC 
requires a new computer. 

someone might figure it's worth bearing the costs of staying with 
Windows vs the costs of transitioning out. 

if they are savvy, they can turn off Outlook, etc., and be immune to a 
lot the newer viruses or worms which seem cut from the same pattern.

myself, I never had to make the transition away from Windows.
