This article is a couple of weeks old but ... Recalling a debunked
study a while ago claiming that Linux has more security holes than any
other OS, I just read the following:
Microsoft cries 'foul' on OS vulnerability data
http://www.nwfusion.com/news/2002/1107msfoul.html
about a study by Mi2g making an analogous claim for Microsoft
operating systems. Interestingly and amusingly, Microsoft is also
making similar claims that open source advocates made to debunk the
Linux study. Namely that "There's no way to determine if the same
issue is counted multiple times, or if erroneous vulnerabilities are
being reported." Of course, with the Linux study, it was easy to see
how vulnerabilities were overcounted. I wonder what Microsoft has in
mind for how Mi2g overcounted vulnerabilities.
